The Blue Rose

I stepped into an unknown garden green
Admiring the lovely breathtaking scene
The sight of those flowers and their scent
Speaking to me in their language reticent

As I walked around the brilliant colours
I remembered the special smile of hers
And so I wandered around to choose
Something that would my lady amuse

And as I rambled around, that dawn
I was suddenly pricked by a thorn
It was then I set my eyes on it
It looked like god’s own gift

A rose I had seen before in red, in pink and white
But never had I been amazed by such a sight
For this one was a shade of deep blue
It looked at me and I at it without a clue

An hour later I was by her side, very near
Whispering silly little secrets in her ear
I gave her the flower and presented an eager cheek
The words that followed the slap were, “You freak!”

I walked in silence down the lane
My heart and mind filled with pain
As I walked I tore off each and every petal
From the rose that had looked so beautiful

Finally I reached my dwelling
Holding the stem sans its dressing
I wove my sad tale and asked my mother for a reason
She smiled and simply said, “Son, Blue is the color of poison!”
